This 100 hour course (10 PLU’s) is Course 2 of 2 courses within the STEM Endorsement.  It enables STEM Endorsement candidates to put the pedagogical practices developed during Course 1 into practice. Candidates will design and implement authentic experiences for their students in STEM and STEM-related careers. Course 2 includes further design and content development, STEM unit creation, teaching of a STEM unit, and submission and debut of a STEM unit as a final product.

This course is an integral component of the STEM endorsement model in which candidates plan, design, and implement appropriate STEM instruction for students. Participants will be expected to relate the characteristics and learning needs of STEM Education to applicable instructional methods and materials that are needed to implement effective educational programs for STEM Education within the classroom.  Participants will be expected to develop and modify instructional content and methodology exemplified in the course requirements to meet the learning needs in the STEM classroom.The application of current research and educational practice will be an integral part of the course. Participants will be expected to select, modify, use, and evaluate instructional materials and software for STEM Education and develop a STEM unit plan of instruction to address current content standards. This course requires a 25-hour field experience.

Prerequisite:   Participants must have successfully completed STEM Endorsement Course 1:  Foundations of STEM Education.

The Endorsement Program Application must be completed before a candidate is considered fully registered for the program.
