Course Description More Details
This one-day professional learning opportunity is designed to support kindergarten through 12th grade math educators with successful “mental math” practices in the classroom using Number Talks. Participants will learn how to engage all students using mental computation, strengthen fluency, student instinct, improve students’ ability to explain and analyze solutions, and allow teachers valuable insight into their students’ thinking.
Teachers will actively practice implementing Number Talks to those within their grade band during this training. Collaboration with other educators will be key as participants realize Number Talks does not supersede GSE instruction but in turn is a successful complement to it.
At the conclusion of this PL, participants shall leave with the knowledge to execute Number Talks effectively with their students. Follow-up from the Math RESA representative throughout the school year is recommended.
Target Audience: K-12 Mathematics Teachers, Curriculum Directors, Academic Coaches, and Administrators
